Far cry 2 not running win7 64

Got it in the steam sale and just gotten round to it in my to do list but when i try to launch it i get the Far Cry 2 has stopped working dialogue.

I have do a lot of googling but cannot seem to find an answer, any ideas?

Ps. theres a FC2WIN7FIX.zip thats supposed to fix something but no idea what to do wih it after its unzipped as there's no executable files.

Stick the files into the FC2 directory I believe, I remember having no end of issues with the game, Ubisoft just seemed to forget about post launch support.

Never had this before and i have the Steam version as well, sure you can't just unzip the files to your Far Cry 2 folder or to a temporary folder [in case things go **** side up] and copy and paste the files from zip folder into the Far Cry 2 folder?

Iam trying to spare him the pain that playing this "game" entails

I got it for free with a GFX card and it still felt like crap value

ah its alright, not the most amazing maybe but for a steam sale couple of squid what the hey. Didnt have any probs launching myself with win7 64, hope ya fix it.

Bah still no joy, not even an exe you can run in compatibility mode.

TBH i hope it is pants as it looks like i'm not going to get to play it.

Pants , seriously how about this for a game mechanic

There are checkpoints all over the map on the roads ( bad dudes with guns manning them)
You approach one , kill all the bad guys and drive past it ......... you move until JUST out of sight of it .......
turn round drive 10 feet back and the minions are all magically back alive and shooting at you ....... repeat 100's of times ...........

have you tried running as administrator from the shortcut on desktop?

also try disabling your firewalls.
