Hallo :D

Got a new i7 rig last Christmas and it came with a copy of Far Cry 2. Only just installed it last week....yeah I know a bit late to the savannah :p as Im sure you lot have been there done that :cool:

A truly rubbish game but I must say (hastily) that the environment is superb and its one of those games where you wish you could disable the baddies and just drive around having some off-road fun. They should have included some rally games!

On the original Far Cry it was real easy to just dive into the weapon .ini or .cfg files and tweak them to your hearts content. Who hasnt given the Desert Eagle the power of an artillery shell :D It was just a case of changing something like

Impact_Velocity = 10

to

Impact_Velocity = 80

Well....is this possible to do in Far Cry 2? Is it buried in those huge 2GB+ .dat files?

I ask becuse apart from the rotten gameplay the fact that the baddies can endure 7.62mm rounds from 2 meters away utterly ruins the game. I once sneaked up on a baddie and pretty much emptied several rounds from an AK into him and he actually took some shots at me and RELOADED before dropping.

To its credit FC2 does immediately allow you to drop 'em if you get a headshot.

So yea....FC2 tweakers please reply...thanks!!!! :)

Hi Katana, no idea how to tweak the weapons in FC2 - but ta for the FarCry tip... actually, I'd never modified the .ini files.

One to try tonight methinks, along with the High Res texture pack for Duke Nukem 3D :D

No problem dude in fact I tweaked the crap out of Far Cry - even removed all the trigens and other crap so it was a human-ai only game and yes got rid of the irritating helicopters too.

Did a ton of weapon mods, Ill see if I can dig em out for ya.

In the meantime grab this mod, its a must-have:

Yeah I've seen that Angus weapon mod before, meant to try it out. I was running a nice realism one ages ago, which did things like lose the rest of the bullets in a magazine when you dropped one out, which i liked.

Is it easy to mod the Trigens out of FarCry? They do tend to spoil it for me, and I think a lot of other people - would love to have a run through on a bit harder difficulty, just killing mercs for the fun of it!

Yeh this really annoys me about games. they try and make it all realistic with graphics e.t.c. and then you get totally taken out of it when you find out most of the populace can take 7.62mm rounds like a soft punch.

I don't get why developers ee the need to do this? I would prefer a few more enemies that reacted accordingly when shot.

Thing is thats not that realistic as IRL you'd probably keep hold of the mag in any case. What would be more realistic would be to have a more Rainbow Six-esque system where you have a 3 or 4 clips you could swap between, that remain depleted. Then when you have a quiet moment, there could be a "sort ammo" timed task (similar to the timed healing event in L4D for instance) where you could fill them back up from a small, finite pool of loose ammo.

That would be most realistic, and would be brilliant when in a tense skirmish if you were backing off swapping between clips with less then 10 rounds in each, and you would certainly take time with your shots more, but it could alter the fluidity of the game.

The violence should be relative as well though, I expect chunks when sniping with a Barrett .50 Cal :D

That would be awesome actually. iamgine having to retreat and duck behind cover to refilll your mags. I would really like that :)

What, while being shot at by 3 or 4 guys? :p I'd drop the mag and reach for a new full one!

Although yes, I've always liked the Rainbow 6 ammo system, took me a while to realise what it was doing as I kept swapping mags after 7 rounds or so like in a normal FPS then I was like.... " hang on, why no fresh mag?" :confused:

You could add SO much tension in with a bit of well thought-out mag filling, diving for cover, "click click click" of fast-loading bullets in, cancel half way through to pop some dude and find new cover to finish the reloading...

Any game developers listening?
