Far Cry 3 ending

So,
i've rescued my bro, nailed everyone, got in the chopper, ride of the Valkyries is booming out....and after flying away then coming back to wreak havoc on the compound again, i get "mission failed". This has happened 3 times now.
I don't remember seeing any warning of me being shot down. Am i missing something.
Also, is this the last part of the game?
What i hate is you have to go right back to the rescue again, what a PITA. I just don't have the patience for this, so if its the end, then i'll just not bother with it.

Great game, other than parts like that where you have to go through a load of crap again, the checkpoint should have been once you're in the chopper.

Your brother gets shot and dies. You have to nail all the enemies quickly. Aim for the rocket men first.

The helicopter has a health bar, did it reach the bottom?

Didn't really check the health bar, i guess it probably did deplete then.
If that's the end of the game, then i cba to keep going back to the rescue part. They really should have made a checkpoint once you're in the chopper. Makes no sense to have to go back further than that.

I had read quite a few comments saying the last part in the chopper was quite difficult, thankfully i fluked it and did it first time

I did it second time once I remembered where all the main targets were. I can't remember it going back that far if you died though? Just getting him out the room then running over to the chopper.

And its refreshing to have a game thats challenging. Don't give up just because you can't breeze through it.

I did it first time but it wasn't that easy, you take a lot of damage before you can even target things :/

Never do mate, just get bored of restarting further back than needed.
But from what you just said, you just ran to the chopper from the cell?
I couldn't seem to get into the chopper until i'd killed everyone around me, including the flamethrower dude, who i had to entice over to the hanger where i shot a red barrell and blew him to kingdom come. This was like 2-3 mins of faffing around before i could get into the chopper.
I'll try running straight to it then and see what happens.

I'm stuck on this as well , tried it loads of times over the past weeks, after having a few goes and the helicopter gets shot down each time and having to do that end sequence again, I get fed up and log out of the game but when I play it again another time I have to go through the whole sequence of escaping the first compound and getting to the one where the helicopter is again.
I did find a god mode cheat to put in the shortcut but it didnt work.
So frustrating to get right near the end of the flight each time and then get shot down, each time I do it I notice another persons shooting at me, so I make sure I get them first but I am obviously missing someone near the end
Also when starting this mission it says you have to complete it once started, but is there a way of getting out of it and going back to the rest of the game
