Hi all,

Just bought Far Cry 3 for the bargain price of £3.74 (LOVE PC GAMING :D)

Any tips or advice for how to get the best experience of the game to a complete newbie?

Thanks!

Just boot it up, play it and explore !!

Reading a guide or tips might ruin the adventure, plus it's a cracking game.

Don't do what I did which was to run off doing all my own things, levelling up, crafting, taking out the bases etc., and leaving virtually all the main quest until the end.

Then you find as you level up you can get 2 skins for every kill etc., which makes the crafting easier (I'd completed it by that point).

Also a lot of the story led missions have quicktime elements to them, press W, press LMB, press W, press RMB etc., and are quite frustrating if you're doing them one after another!

Apart from that, just enjoy it, it's an excellent game!

The setup for multiplayer is rubbish though, I've tried for two nights and haven't got into a game yet. Why don't they just have a server browser as every single other game does!

Pick off guards one by one from the safe houses, you don't want to take them all on at once.
Once a safehouse is cleared the area around it will be free of random encounters.
Do the radio towers to get map coverage of an area and cool weapons.
Do the hunting and crafting side missions to get better kit.

Loved this game. Was so good when I had the fully upgraded sniper rifle, picking off enemies from the top of a hill and seeing them go crazy. Ahhhh might have to play it again.

Ooh one more tip for you.

When taking over outposts, if you shoot an alarm box it only disables that box, manually disable it (going up to it and holding E) disables all the alarms on that base, stopping them from calling reforcements. If you want to play it that way, that is. Some of my best encounters were when things went wrong and reinforcements were all over the place with explosions and fire taking up half the landscape! :D

Make sure you do the radio towers to get more free guns and reveal the map. In the early stages of the game it's worth racing past larger enemy bases until you have the firepower to take them out. Also you get a lot more points if you can clear some without getting detected. A silenced sniper rifle is your friend here.

Probably best to mix this stuff up with progressing the main story. And remember to save once you have crafted/gained something in case you get killed and find yourself back at a check point without it.

Press play. Don't be afraid to just pick a direction and run. You'll find cool stuff.

Also be careful what you choose at the end *no spoilers* but then quickly go on YouTube and find the other ending haha... or better play it all again

Whatever happened to excitedly running home, installing your new game and just getting stuck in? Why do people these days need tips before they've even started a game?

This :)

It's helpful to go on a radio tower hunt to unlock the map.
Craft as soon as you can, but it may be worth waiting until you unlock the perk that gives 2 skins instead of one.
Have your speakers turned up at all times, so you don't miss some great moments :D

Just to add... I wouldn't worry about tips and stuff for the best experience. Very replayable game imo, so you can decide the best way to play for your 2nd playthrough if you like it enough.

I played for ~4 hours last night and it's an exceptional game! Reminds me of Red Dead Redemption, mixed with Dead Island, Assassins Creed and a bit of Tomb Raider. Determined to complete as close to 100% as possible!

Definitely keen on doing a radio tower hunt!

omg, spoilers, game ruined, uninstalling!! :p

agree with most here, get doing the hunting/side missions earlier on to carry the bonuses through the game.

shooting alarms with silenced guns so they can't call for back up.

also animal cages, shoot it and you unleash what ever is in there and usually takes out a few guards :D and an excellent distraction.

sweet fx works with it so can be made even sexier ;)

lots to explore so don't be afraid to bunk off a mission for a bit and just go wandering, chances are you'll do other random sidequests too (like radio towers) :)

Loved playing this game! hope you have a similar enjoyment!

C4

More specifically C4 in front of moving vehicles.

oh yeah this reminds me, again going along with the "don't be afraid to wander" thing, also take some time just to watch the NPCs xD I've witnessed friendly multi car pile ups with big explosions just because of cars going around a blind bend it seems :p
