Hello dear forum.
First my pc:
4790 stock
8gb ram
Sabertooth Z79 Mark2
Asus Strix 980 ( Oc factory )
Corsair 750 RM
HDD 500GB SATAIII

So 5 days ago when playing Far Cry 4 my computer suddenly freezes with "BZZZZZ" sound.
( ctrl alt del and so on didn't work I had to pull the power and restart. )
So only hard reset helps.
Question of course . Why i was had one single hard freez 5 days ago?

There is no any minidumps file to analyze. Minidump folder is empty.
No minidump file.

Nothing appears in the Event Viewer other than the typical error messages stating that the previous shutdown was unexpected.

On windows event log i have this:
Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power
Event ID: 41
Level: Critical
Description:
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

It can be game or something with hardware?

After that i run even Prime95 Blend for 10 hours, without errors.
I test Watchdogs for 2 hours , no crash.
I test Metro Last Light for 2 hours, no crash.
I test Unigine Valley for 1 hour, no crash.
I test 3dmark 11 Extreme loop for 1 hour , no crash.

Also i dont OC my pc, all is stock.
I am using 334.75 WHQL drivers.

What you think that freeze was game\software or hardware related?
Like i say all is fine now, but i am worried about that one single freez ( only hard reset helps ) from 5 days ago.

Thank you for any suggestion.

Should i be worried?

Yes it happens only once, so thats why i create a topic problem. Because i want to know , what caused that one single freez. I never had freez like this even before.
The most strange that my freeze happened once, 5 days ago. I am now 100 hours in game ( Far Cry 4 of course ) and nothing happened again.

It can be software or hardware problem?

Freez was related to software or hardware then ? What you think?

Hard freeze could be memory problem. Have you run a mem check?

Has it done it just the once then?, if so, maybe a power spike. which could point to PSU. Could just have been a surge on the grid, lightning at the time can cause spikes on unprotected equipment.

Look deeper if it starts happening more often and carry on as usual :D

you do realise that FC4 IS KRAP dont you...............regardless, the besat shooter is arcade, wow man tonight is bad so bad, Seriously SAM, cROTEEM

Bit of a longshot,
Did you have any flash applications running at the time?

The last few drivers have given me massive instability with flash installed, changed to HTML5 for YT ect and removed flash, and its been fine.

Although NEVER rule out a garbgae Ubisoft port causing crashes lol :P

I also had Farcry 4 freeze on me, a few mins ago actually. Never happened before. Perhaps the latest Nvidia drivers?

i980x
12gb
EVGA Titan X
etc..

There is no any minidumps file to analyze. Minidump folder is empty. Watchdog folder ( TDR driver crash ) empty too without minidump file.

Somebody told me that "If software caused a crash, then it appears in the event logs"
But i dont have any messages in event logs after that hard freeze.

On windows event log i have this only:
Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power
Event ID: 41
Level: Critical
Description:
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

This freeze was game or hardware related then?

I've encountered this problem on FC2, FC3 and FC4, the windows error log is showing the sudden shut down and not the cause that made it happen. I've always found it to be a memory problem. The work around has been to set memory to run at stock speed i.e. no overclock. I've had this happen to Far Cry games even when all other games run o.k.
I also only run memory which is on the QVL for the motherboard which probably helps also.

Sorry to be imprecise, the hardlock is caused by the software and the solution is the memory, Far Cry 1 was based on the Crytek engine and run on overclocked memory with no problems, Far Cry 2, 3, and 4 are on the dunia engine which is a modded version of the Crytek engine by Ubisoft and appears to not like overclocked Ram.

i just played FC3 to check and it was fine and the RAM was OC this afternoon, but not manually, it was an Auto OC to 2400.......up from 1800

Have you ever tried to run any other memory intensive tasks? I would say the cause is the overclocked memory not the software. If it runs fine at stock it's not software and software has no relevance to hard settings. I'm not an expert but I think when overclocking anything you are pushing things to the limits and there's a chance that under certain conditions it could push a component over - could be a constant high load or even just spiking as two examples. I would say the software is using the memory in a way that is causing the memory to fail when overclocked but is a direct result of the memory not handling what's being thrown at it properly, due to already working beyond the conditions it was originally built to be reliable for.

Hey. I am now maybe 400 hours+ in game and without crash or freeze. So i think that single freeze was a game issue? Also my memory its not overclocked. All of my system is on stock.

I dont OC my pc. All is stock. Before and after crash. But like i say. Freeze happens once, and after that ,i am now maybe 400 hours+ in game and without crash or freeze. Any ideas why its happened?
