Far Cry 6 (2021)

I got this on release and hated it as enemies respawn far too quickly. They will respawn in a base you're trying to clear, see their own dead body and then alert everybody else
I was hoping the devs would have changed this but I've just checked and they haven't and have no plans to do so.

It is currently on offer and I was thinking about picking this up. Sounds frustrating, I think I will give it a miss!

I never encountered that, weird. Whenever I cleared a place out it stayed clear, I don't recall things respawning.

It depends. If its a main outpost then it stays clear, if its one of the smaller areas that are held by the army guys(Generally outlined in red) then they do respawn constantly. Its particularly frustrating when you are sent to one of those places for a side mission and you try and get it done stealthy rather than loud.

Respawns tend to be really bad around areas that are missions. At least they used to be on release, it's quite possible it's been patched
