Not really looking for a resolution as I've uninstalled Far Cry now anyway but just wanted some opinions on what happened.

I installed Far Cry a few days ago on my Vista 64 machine. 64 bit patch installed. The game played fine and I was happy playing along. Generally impressed with everything.

Now since then I've been experimenting with OC's on my x1900 xt and installed Stalker, not really given Far Cry much attention.

So I fired up Far Cry with a bit of an OC and the gfx were all over the place, like big coloured triangles stretching from the center to the edges of the screen, except when I looked up at the sky or when I was indoors. I know it would've been smart to get a screen grab but I didn't. Just think of it like when they use the hyperdrive in starwars except instead of long lines, big stretched triangles.

Anyway, thinking it was my OC I took off everything I did and tried it again but it still was doing the same thing. All my other games appear fine even with my overclocks.

I can only think that Stalker must have copied over a later directx 9 dll that Far Cry doesn't like.

Thoughts?

I recently installed Far Cry again and I get the exact same thing.

I have to turn off Shader Model 3 (\r_sm30path 0) to get everything to work fine. And I can't get HDR to work as well like I used to.

HDR needs SM3.0...
Problem is that FC isnt officially supported for Vista, and since there are so many versions of DX9c (M$ want shooting for that) it would be difficult to tell if Stalker did update it...

I guess you could check the modified dates of your DirectX files.

Did either of you update you graphics drivers when in between FC working and not?

Theoretically a dedicated GPU profile for FC could fix this by disabling whatever Stalker has set, but if the Driver dedicated game profile doesnt help, I'm afraid its beyond my skill to tell you where to start with generating your own...
