I'm thinking about playing far cry again and so I want to know if there are any mods around to enhance the graphics. I remember the first time I played it I got annoyed at the textures loading in the distance so if that could be fixed then it would be great.

get the 64bit patches, just make sure you install and run the game in winxp sp2 compatibility mode.
It's mostly done through the console IIRC, the distance stuff would be the geometry instancing, which you enable and then change several variables and it stops the game using nasty sprites on distant trees/bushes. Also you can enable HDR but it has to be re-enabled at the start of each new level IIRC. Don't know the details but I'm sure you'll be able to google it.
You don't have to reenable HDR anymore, I've got it running fine. Depending on what graphics card you have, getting AA working with HDR can be a bit of a lottery.
As mentioned above, get the 64bit patch, which is also available in a 32bit version so you can get that either way.
I'm sure there are other tweaks but I don't know of them unfortunately.
