Felt a nostalgia run, And remembered playing the original first Far cry and thoroughly enjoying it so i bought it on Uplay.

However, this bloody thing will not run :(

When you launch the game i get the splash screen for it but then it goes no further.

So far I've tried the following advised fixes.

  • Go into the game files and set the launcher to Windows Xp SP3 & Run as Admin = No change
  • Install Patch 1.3 = No change
  • set lighting settings to "High" only and not "Ultra high" as this apparently causes issues = No change

Bit annoyed now because when you buy a game you expect to be able to play the thing :D

If anyone has any idea,Would be greatly appreciated :)

Weird. It works straight away on my PC without any patches required. So that rules out the game being at fault.

Have you tried running it in OpenGL mode?

Enable the OpenGL renderer

Modify the system.cfg file
  1. Go to <path-to-game>
  2. Open system.cfg with Notepad or other text editor.
  3. Change the value of r_driver to "OpenGL"
  4. Save the file and launch the game.

I hadn't, But have just tried but still, it's doing the same, Out of curiosity do you have yours on Steam or Uplay?

I'll save you a job, leave it in the past, it will only spoil your memories of it :D

:D ahh well at this rate i wont be able to play it anyway :D

Do you have a HDR capable setup? I seem to recall in a recent video some mention of issues related to that in some way but I didn't pay much attention.

(HDR in the game is a software post-processing effect and not the same as HDR on a monitor).

Will be following this. I managed to get myself a copy for free after it was left in a house some friends have just purchased down the road.
I also got MoH Allied Assault, Breakthough and Pacific Assault.

Having played a few older games over the last couple of months I'll throw some random things out there that may or may not help.

Are you running a lot of USB devices? if so maybe try removing them all and see if it's something the game doesn't like. Also try disabling them through the hardware manager as well.

Where do you have it installed? if it's the default installation path maybe try simply installing it direct to a new folder in your C: then run as an admin.

Are you getting a black screen on start up? or just the splash window? Could be worth searching for a command to skip the intro videos to see if that makes a difference.

Any microphone connected? or the computer thinks there's a microphone connected? if so try disabling that too.

Wasn't there an AMD 64bit patch of sorts? Maybe digging that up will help it to run...worth a try.
Yes I used this on my version which works fine, I just installed and patched it so couldn’t say if it won’t work without the patch but I’m having no problems with it.

The Steam version does run at least though it doesn't look as good as it used to on my X800XT for... some reason. Steam at least do make sure their titles will run on the latest OS version unlike say old discs which may simply not work on 10 or at least badly especially if they have DRM.
