Hi

have just ordered the game online and although I have had the game before I was wondering what updates, patches etc I should download in preparation.

If someone could supply the list I would be really grateful.

Many thanks

I believe you want to get:

FarCry 1.3 Patch
FarCry 1.31 Patch (Updates from 1.3 to 1.31)
FarCry 1.33 Patch (Updates from 1.31 to 1.33)

And if you want the extra detail, download the Athlon 64 patch, ~480MB, but there's a command that will let you run the game on Windows XP, rather than just Windows x64.

Personally I'd do this:

Patch 1.3 (74meg)
Patch 1.31 (9meg)
64-bit patch (485meg)
64-bit enhanced content (421meg)
Patch 1.33 (21meg)

Total is ~1gig and you should be nicely patched up. There is a beta 1.4b patch floating about somewhere but that was leaked and isn't officially supported.

i have just got this game and have an AMD64 but dont have WinXP 64 - what is the command/method/process to enable the 64bit extensions without a 64bit OS?

If you get a new budget release it might well come with all those patches on the disk (mine did), might save yourself a download if you have limited bandwidth!

There isnt.
You cant have 64bit software running on a 32bit OS.
What the command probably does is enable the extra content to be run from the normal 32bit executable.
:)

"it has since been discovered that is possible to apply these updates to FarCry on a system with a 64-bit CPU/32-bit OS (Win XP) and even a 32-bit CPU/32-bit OS (Win XP)"

anyone tried it this way - is it worth it or should i wait for when i get a 64bit OS?

I did it. Didn't notice much difference to be honest, pehaps a little longer draw distance and certainly not a major hit to performance. Maybe I did it wrong but I would probably say I can't tell the difference... :o

The thing is, that the 'enhansed content' for FarCry 64bit, isnt actually adding anything that cant be done in the 32bit version.
As has been mentioned, the major difference is the draw distance. Which can be upped anyway in '32bit mode', and a few higher res/more detailed textures, again, something that doesnt need 64bit capibilites to be done.
Bit of a scam really. :o

Yep bit of a marketing stunt for AMD, however as it's free and improves things we shouldn't complain :) Would have been worse if it had been used to sell the game in the first place.
