farcry 2 help (spoiler)

Got farcry2, but not sure how to progress through the main story. All I seem to be doing is silly gunshop quests. Sometimes I get a phone call off someone who adds a blue marker to my hideout, but when I finish the mission I am already on, then go to do theirs, it has disappeared.

Also the driving about EVERYWHERE is really tedious, especially since 1 or 2 gunshots make the vehicle slow right down. Every outpost I drive past shoots at me

That's a 'feature' of the game. The best solutions seem to be to get a dune buggy and charge through as fast as you can and hope you get past without incident, or use boats and hope you don't bump into a patrol.
