I decided to try farcry again after a while. I get bad screen corruption, what could this be? Its never happend before.

using 6.7 and ATI X1800XT, its not overclocked!

Farcry has patch 1.33.

Had X1800XT about 4 months it works fine with everything else.

Sure it's definitely patched? You didn't reinstall it and forget or they didn't install correctly? I get corruption, though with a Nvidia card, out of the box until the patches are installed.

I dunno what this could be but my Farcry had bright green shadows RIGHT at the start :D :D

I get a similar thing, with a similar set up. I'm certain my X1800XT isn't overheating, even with a long stress test with ATi tool it never goes above 56C, with a VF-900 fitted.

I have patched up to 1.33, and the corruption only occurs when looking at somewhere containing the horizon/sky. when im inside and looking at walls, ceilins, floor, etc, its fine. On the 6.8 Cats.

Anyone got any other ideas? All my other gaqmes run perfectly.

Its obviosuly not the card & something specific to the game. Maybe a driver bug. Try a different driver revision (an earlier version).

I get this sometimes depending on how I install the patches, the following sorted it out for me,

With Farcry:

Patch to 1.2
then to 1.3 etc.

I used the 64 bit addon as well (on xp32 bit), and HDR. Looks stunning :D

identical to when my graphics memory was overheating, clock your memory back a bit and have a look then ;)

Have you tried lowering the shadows, ive heard they can cause some problems. :)

I don't know if it was fixed (probably was), but i remember the shadows not being able to be maxed on ATi cards as the maxed setting used a Nvidia path to do them, and so if the shadows were ran at maxed on ATi cards then that would cause problems, had to be lowered one, but as i say thats probably been fixed long ago, but its worth a try i suppose. :)

The card isn't overclocked so that shouldn't be causing an issue.

Because this is only happening in Far cry I would be inclidined to say its either a driver bug (possibly have a look at the readme to your latest drivers) or a game specific bug - corrupt game files etc.

Strange, I just installed my old AGP X850 XT card into my mates athlon as I've just upgraded, and he gets bright yellow shadows :)

Gonna try patching the game but I'm not sure its going to work.

another thing, no offense but those textures look a bit shoddy for such a fast card, i have 7600GTs with everything maxed, HDR and it looks nice and crisp

Dont think its an issue with cat 6.8 or 6.7 infact all drivers from ATI have worked with my X1800XT from 6.5 on Far Cry. Try a reinstall, but like Loadsamoney saids it could well be the shadows need turning down, always have mine on low anyway.

I'd be gutted if i couldn't play FC, play it most nights, not that im any good

As it happens does anyone know if the X64 Far Cry patch improves things on a 32bit XP? will it work? and is it worth it? Where do i get it?

lol, so many questions

you need XP 64-bit edition to benefit from that patch, but it does a few things, gives small boost in FPS i noticed, improves crispness of textures at a distance another thing i noticed and reduces the CPU usage of the game :p
