I've just installed Farcry on vista64 and i'm having a few issue in the game. Everything seems to be working but when i'm in the game I keep seeing flashes of light almost like lighning.
I've got the patch v1.4 installed and i've got Forceware version 165.01 for my 8800gtx installed

I've tried lowering the settings but this makes no difference. :(
is this a driver issue?

Just woundering if anybody can help, cheers!

Gaming is pretty much a no go on Vista at the moment, driver support is somewhat lacking

go back to XP if poss

Its not mate, everything is fine (same as xp) on it.

Yep. Not that it should make a difference but I'm running the 64bit patch for it. Maybe give that a go?

Alternatively try the 158.18 set. Make sure you completely uninstall your old driver. It's really important with the new sets. Old files can get left behind and cause problems.

Uninstall the driver, use driver cleaner in safe mode, run a search for old nvidia files nv*.*
Delete nvidia stuff. Reboot and install the set.

Thats not true anymore. ATI, Nvidia and Creative all have good drivers out there now. Gaming on Vista is fine.

It's probably a variation of dx versions. Far Cry uses 9b by default. If you let anything install the 9c dlls (on Vista) it will throw a wobbly and the graphics go crazy.

I'm assuming it was addressed in one of the patches, but I know from personal experience that when going from a fresh install straight to the 64 bit patch that it isn't.

i guess you're jumping on a bandwagon, and not actually tried Vista correct?

Nah
If you Play 3DMark all day then maybe going back to XP is your best bet.
If however you actually play games rather than synthetic benchmarks gaming is good under Vista.
I won't say it is "as good" but then we have drivers that have been able to mature for 3-4 years.
However as a gaming platform Vista is just fine.

yikes I got flamed there, apologies :)

Just tried that and it's still no better. It only seems to be an issue when i'm outside in the light! (In the game).

Also tried the 64-bit patch and still no better! :(

MadMacs, see my post above. Try reinstalling dx9b and it'll be fixed.

When I went to whatever version came with the stalker disc it screwed it up in exactly the same way the OP is describing.
