I originally played this through on first release, and thought it a fine but flawed title.
I decided to have a go at it recently, and a few patches later (along with some major hardware upgrades on my part), this has evolved into a very fine game indeed
It plays a lot faster and seems much more polished.
It's very well presented, with a fine intro, music and style.
With the added benefit of higher resolution, 8AA and 16AF, I have to say, it looks absolutely stunning - even three years later! Its very vibrant and colourful, especially on 'Paradise' mode. At this quality it stands up to any game on any format available today, at least from a visual point of view. Thats a great endorsement for PC gaming. The in-game locations are atmospheric, and well thought out with a fair bit of variety.
I still feel the difficulty balance falls apart a bit later in the game, but there's still more than enough to keep the player interested. Some lousy voice acting lets it down a bit. Multiplayer is decent considering it's first and formost a SP game.
All I can say is roll on Crysis, because these guys really know what they're doing
