Ive started playing again in highest detail 1280x1024, high AA, 4X AF. I though my computer would destroy this game ([email protected], 2gb ram, X1800XT 256mb) it runs ok then I got to the part at the start where you get the binoculars. I zoomed in onto the island of grunts and was present with a slideshow!

Cant this new card handle 4x AF and some distance? I say this because i know people are playing the game in 64bit details, extra textures etc. Do i need a super computer to run it so it looks nice?

Should be able to handle it no probs, my old x800 XT PE did, never tried it on my x1800, but i can't see how it would run worse than the x800.

Might have actually been my x800pro it was that long ago.

I have an opteron clocked at 2.8ghz aswell. maybe something is not right like the pci-e transfer rate or something. I swapped the graphics card to the lower slot as it wouldnt fit (covered the chipset fan) in the top one. I changed all the jumpers to the lower slot on the board. Maybe theres something i need to set in the bios?

Something else wrong then mate because i have an opty 144 @ 2.8GHz with 2GB of OCZ ram and a 256mb X1800 XT overclocked and i play farcry at 1280 x 1024 with all the advanced gfx settings to very high and 4x AA and 8X AF

The FPS never drops below 80 and most of the time sits at 95 - 100

is it because im still running version 1.0?

Heh :) V1.0 is 2 years old now and updating should always be your first port of call after installing a game. I'd recommend:

Patch 1.3
Patch 1.31
64-bit Patch
64-bit Content
Patch 1.33

Also bear in mind that performance takes a huge hit when zoomed in (with sniper rifle, presumably binoculars is the same) sometimes e.g. looking at a cliff face, I'm not sure why. I was playing on a p4-2.7/9800pro at the time though and an earlier version of the game so with 1.33 and modern hardware I'd imagine it wouldn't be quite so bad.

i tried version 1.3 and it just didnt load so this is still 1.0. I noticed when i detected settings it found system as 'very high' but all of the settings were on low

heres some shots in 1600x1200, max aa and max af resized to 1024x768. Notice the fraps frames

Not needed per se (it won't fix any performance problems) but it does make the game better. For now just get yourself up to 1.33.

Might be worth checking your driver settings to ensure to ensure vsync is disabled and other settings are as they should be. Also what do you mean by "max AA"? Personally in 1600x1200 I wouldn't use more than 4x

its just set at 'high' I put 1.1 on then tested and it worked, then i put 1.3 on and it just hung at the first image on loading. (just before the purple video) I alt, ctrl, del and got not responding.
Ill try again tomorrow, but i uninstalled it as if @@@@@@ me right off.
Patches ive now got-
1.1
1.3
1.31
1.32
1.33

Only patches you need to install are 1.3, 1.31 and 1.33 (1.1 and 1.32 can be binned)

Far Cry really needs to be patched up as older versions have bugs (dodgy textures amongst other things) and also lack features such as SM3.0 rendering (r_sm30path 1).
