Farmers ARGHHH !!!

As a builder we can't leave any mud on the roads, we have sweepers employed to clean the road or wheel washers on site, I still can't figure out how farmers get away with it.

If there's a spot of mud on the road we get crucified

its cos they give em free milk or eggs or summat. build em something for free and you can drop your muck whereever you please. ;)

maybe... lol :D

They are allowed to leave a "reasonable" amount of mud on the road but if the amount is "unreasonable" they have to clean it up. If you recon it's a danger to road users then report it to your local councils Highways department and they will send an inspector out to have a look, even better take some pics before other traffic spreads it around and email them to Highways with a description of the location. I often visit Highways offices for work and they usually have photos on the wall of stupid amounts of mud on roads left by farmers so they're used to dealing with it.

This. It's not always possible to leave a field without dropping some mud out of the treads, but there's nothing stopping you having a spade hanging around to clear up the mess.

Apart from anything else, that's MY mud, and no Highway Agency is going to be stealing it from me!!!

I was going to saw this. Suppose its a way for the council to make money. IIRC its about 200 quid for them to sort it if you don't?

I've had a few wobbles because of farmers mud, mid-corner. You can buy a portable battery powered pressure washer for 150 quid, similar to the price a builder has to pay to clean a road, once...

... which could be attached to the front on the bike! I like your (my) thinking! :p

Interesting that the council do care though.

plenty of mud round here on the roadddddss in wiiiltshhireeee, just get to know where the mud is likely to be and ride accordingly, if you dont know the roads ride slowly, if you do you should know where the mud will be, simples!

Bloody pheasants are as bad, quite why the people who breed the things for game appear to be allowed to add such a hazard to our roads is outrageous.

Not always that easy; I had a very narrow escape in my car on a road I have commuted for the last 14 years. Driving at night I went around a bend and suddenly the steering went dead and the car headed into the hedge. Fortunately grip came back after just a light brush with the undergrowth and I stopped and found a big, thick patch of stinking slurry that had been left on the road, and it wasn't a part of the road I had ever encountered mud before. Being an unlit B road you just couldn't see it on a dark night. I reported to the police anyway; if I had been on a bike then things would have been nasty.

This bugs me as well. I don't understand how an individual can let their horse lay a massive steamer in the road and continue on their way yet if you own a dog you are supposed to clean it up.
Dogs aren't vegetarians.

I was referring more to the fact that it's a hazard for bikers rather than the general mess.
But the difference in your point is that dog **** isn't biodegradable.
