Hi all

I have thousands of 64+ megapixel images that I need to crop. These images are 190MB tifs and Irfranview seems to work the best to crop them very quickly, about 1 second to crop and start loading the next image... but saving the crop and loading the next image takes around 15-20 secs (GB network).

Is there anyway this can be speeded up perhaps by precaching the next image (like ACDSEE does, but ACDSEE makes cropping an image one of the most convoluted tasks you can do with it)

Has anyone done anything similar?

I've tried Speedocrop - crashes
Faststone - laggy and slow, and makes you jump through to many hoops.

Irfranview is literally - draw a box, ctrl+y, ctrl+s, return, y, pgdown.

Just checked ACDSEE 10 and croppign is improved, but I can't 'queue up' the key strokes - I have to CTRL+shift+X. wait.. Ctrl+S, Return, Y, wait... Pgdown etc. irfranview lets you buffer keystrokes. Will test speed tomorrow

Doesn't look like irfranview will get caching anytime soon. http://en.irfanview-forum.de/vb/showthread.php?979-Image-caching/page6&

I can't work out from your post, are you batching it or doing it manually?

Looks like you can batch crop with Irfanview, so just leave it over night and let your computer do the work :D:
