Not sure if this combination is possible but i'm currently driving a 330d, now this car pretty much fits the bill but was wondering if there was anything else I could consider? I don't really mind poor consumption round town but it has to be economical on the motorway, preferably 40+. Budget around 10k, so is there anything else?

Faster than a 330D and 40+ mpg and convertible? Don't think so. Sacrifice one out of fast or 40+mpg I'm afraid. Is age a concern? If not and you can sacrifice mpg down to 25-30mpg and you're looking at Boxster S, Z4 3.0 or S2000. I think early 350Zs might drop down to this price range too.

S2 Elise. You'll get one for 10k (just) and it'll get to 40mpg on the motorway.

It'll beat a 330d to 70ish. Just don't expect the last word in comfort or toys compared to the BMW. It'll be a hell of a lot more fun to drive though!

S2000 is probably the only one of those i'd be interested in for its balance of the requirements whilst being somewhat comfortable, how do they do on the motorway?

Depends how you drive it. Except low figures if your using the full rev range and VTEC.

It is a inline-4 2.0L so its pretty good on fuel if you drive it conservatively.

Got to admit, I have a fuel card so I don't exactly monitor my MPG :p

ahh right, your question seemed to me to be asking about how they are on the motorway :p

no idea on mpg, plenty of owners here though who should be able to tell you real world figures hehe

Could always swap it for the same car but with a nicer engine and with no roof.

Ie, 330ci Cabriolet?
