Hi

I am not sure if people on here call them flash drives, pen drives, data sticks, sorry but i wanted to ask is it worth getting something like the Kingston Digital HyperX Savage 3.1 USB pen drive if am going to be using it as a o/s drive on my home server (home labs for testing server 2016 and playing with linux) or is a standard pen drive ok for the likes of installing it ESXI on to it?

Thanks for any help.

Yeah for esxi install should be fine. Just remember that esxi loads into memory- so the usb drive is only actually read during bootup and shutdown- and written to when you make config changes via vsphere or vcenter.

I had a client who was running off usb- ran fine for over 2 years- until they had a powercut- on reboot the usb was dead.

Would be really nice if it was possible to get a usb raid type setup...
