Fast Internet, Slow file transfers?

I’m far from experienced with wireless technology!

I’ve recently got Virgin 50mb connected vie Ethernet to two PC’s and wirelessly to another one,
I’m using the supplied Netgear Router (Netgear WNR2000 300Mbps Wireless N Cable Router) and Dongle (I think its the Netgear WN111 300Mbps RangeMax Wireless USB Network Adapter?). I’ve also got a HP Gigabyte switch.

The problem, I although the wireless PC has a fast Internet connection ~27mb (according to speedtest), I can only transfer files at ~3mb? am I missing a setting or is this normal?

Is this download speed or do you mean moving one file to another location?

Are you downloading at 3mb or 3MB?
3MB would be about right for a 27mb connection.

Come to think of it you're right!

My 50mb connection gives me speed of 5.95mb's (Newsgroup), so the wireless would give me about 3mb's transfer...

Sorry for the daft question...
