I have a 500watt psu, case, HD's etc etc, considering my options for best bang for buck.

Cheers.

I see where you're going with that build R124/LA420; a lower multiplier CPU, with high bandwidth RAM to run a high FSB machine.

If you're going in that direction, I would make sure that you have plenty of good ventilation for the case, so the chipset doesn't get too hot.

Main use playing Battlefield 2 on a 19in CRT monitor - max rez 1600x1200.

You have the idea, I assume I am barking up the right tree then? :o

I was considering a different chip & overclocking possibly, but figured the higher bandwith fsb etc would help me if I did not overclock it.....

I have a large case with plenty of airflow, so, hopefully cooling won't be an issue.

Any particular choice with regard to the cpu? is the one I'm thinking of a good bet, or, would / could I get something better for a small further outlay, I was initially thinking of spendig a lot less on the CPU but have had a re-consider.

Toying with a Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB) - Retail - but it pushes the budget up quite a bit, would the extra expense be justified considering my main use will be games?

Cheers. :)
