At the moment I am using an AMD Athlon 64 3200+.

In 'Everest Ultimate Edition' the program describes it as:

Type: AMD Athlon 64, 2000 MHz (10 x 200) 3200+

I was wondering if I could use a faster processor with the Gigabyte board but I am confused by the different 'System Bus (MHz)' ratings shown for various CPUs on the Gigabyte 'CPU Support List' for my board:-

Could I use the 'AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego (Socket 939)' which OcUK is selling at a decent price, without any problems?

Will it be a decent improvement over my present 3200+, it will not be overclocked. I like to use my system with USB tv tuners for watching and recording TV programmes and thought a faster processor would be an aid to doing tnis.

Better to get a dual core processor for it. It will make windows and the programs you run a lot more zippier.

I went from a 3200+ to a 4200+ x2 and the difference was very noticable even before I overclocked it from 2.2Ghz to 3Ghz.

You can pick them up 2nd hand quite cheaply if you can't find anybody selling them new.

Dual core is the way forward and once you have one, you will never want to go back to a single core again IMO.

I went from a Venice 3800+ single core to a retail Toledo 4800+ dual core.....

Difference is hard to gauge really. Be careful spending hard-to-earn cash for minimal improvements!
