Would changing from a i7 950 to Xeon X5670 help when playing games at higher resolution?

ie everything is fine now with 950 and 1200, but if I go ultra wide 1440p, would there be a difference between 950 and x5670? ATI 480. Everything at stock to keep it simple.

Even if I get 10-20 fps more at 1440 that would certainly be a major boost, from unplayable to playable.
 
Depends on the game. Also those kinds of chips are only barely competitive when overclocked, at stock speeds they're far more likely to bottleneck you.
