As the topic suggests, colleague of mine is practically giving away some kit (SN85G4 with a Athlon64-3000) and it's made me wonder if I should, for a short outlay, stick myself into the 64bit market.

Autosig has my current spec.

Whats the current fastest AGP chipset with support for a 64bit chip, whether Athlon or Sempron (Will these potentially clock better) and will it give an signifcant increase in perfomance with my current kit.

Cheers, Paul

My only issue with the SN85G or any 754 socket base, is processor availability seems to be very slim, a quick scan of some sites produced only the 3000+ being available.

Hmm, going for a SN95 has interested me though, but then I'm sure the costs won't :)

Edit, Although I can't seem to find any of those either! ho ho.

Cheers, Paul.

Yeah, managed to find the SN95G5V3 for around the 200 quid mark.
the V2 does seem to be more pricey mind, Have to look into the specs to see what's the real difference.

But yes, I think I'll go the SN95, which means processor check, looking at compatability listings, they reckon the V3 can happily cope with a X2 chips. Since I'm mainly a gamer, would I reall see any difference with an X2? (I do the occasional video de/encoding but never at the same time as gaming).

Edit, with the above in mind, I have been checking out the X2 3800+, with this, the SN95V3 and 2GB of mem, is there a recommended set of DDR3200/4000 for the aboive setup with a mind to tentively OC it.

Anyways, Cheers, Paul.
