Fastest card available that's the same size/smaller (and faster) than a 8800GTS 512?

I'm currently running an 8800GTS 512mb in an Antec Fusion, it's keeping up OK at the moment on a 1080i (1366x768) but I'm toying with a 1080p and I don't think it's going to cut it at the higher res.

Therefore, any recommendations as to what I can put in there instead? I am restricted by the length of the card, the 8800GTS just about fits in there with the power connector at the end being squashed against the support beam in the case.

Not really fussed if it's NVidia or ATI, just so long as it's quicker. SLI isn't an option as it's running on a mATX board.

Cheers! :)

The GTX 280 is, i believe only slightly longer than the 8800 GTS 512, and it has its power connectors on the side, so should afford you that extra room. If you want to measure your card, the GTX 280 is 10.5 inches (according to a few sites)

GTX280 is a lot larger then the 8800gts.

With a motherboard sat in a case, it'll stick around 1-3cms off the edge of the motherboard the other side to the backing plates.

So make sure you have room.

I've done a bit of reading about and it looks like both the current GTXs are a fair amount longer than the GTS 512, balls. Granted with the power connectors being on the side instead of the back there is a bit more room to play with, but it's looking like you might have a point ShaolinDreams...

Just found this on a forum, from an 8800GTS 512 owner

I just measured mine. Installed it is 10 inches front to back but you will need 11 inches total with the pcie power plug! Hope this helps

So going by that i personally think it WILL fit.

I'm running a GTS512 at 1080p and it seems to be fine in everything, except Crysis of course. What games are you playing right now?

The Gainward HD4850 fits with room to spare which i bought from OCUK, it's the dual slot cooler version.

I think Sapphire do a slightly smaller one too.

Fallout 3 mostly, but I thinking ahead for future releases as well as the increase in res to 1920. What sort of games are you playing out of interest? I'm mostly going to be playing FPSs and maybe the odd RTS.

Ta for the suggestion, but I was after a bit more grunt so it lasts a bit longer in the upgrade stakes. The GTS 512mb was a superb card for that, it's almost a shame to be retiring it as it's one of the best value cards I've had in a while. Right up there with the 9800pro.

Listed on Nvidia's own pages......

Length 10.5 inches (267 mm) (under the spec list)

Sweet, if that's the case then that should fit nicely. Cheers matey. :)

COD4 mostly. I haven't tried Fallout3 but some peeps on another forum are saying that it plays fine at 1680x1050 on High w/ 4xaa and 8xaf and that's with an 8800GT.

I'd get the TV first if I was you unless someone wades in with some experiences with other games at 1080p.
