I have two pcs at home, and would like to stick the fastest cpus in them as possible.

So what would the panel recommend are the fastest cpu's for each of these?

Abit AB9 Pro (WiFi) = currently has Core2Duo E6600 clocked at 3.2Ghz (400x8)

Abit IP35 (v1.0) = currently has Core2Duo E6550 clocked at 3.0Ghz (430x7)

Or is it not worth upgrading the cpu's in these (eg: not enough difference in grunt)?

Opinions appreciated

Officially -

AB9 Pro - The E6850 is the fastest dual-core, and QX6850 is the fastest quad-core. Not sure if it can unofficially take the new chips.

IP35 - Will take anything upto and including the latest E8600 and Q9750.

I would leave the E6600 in the AB9 Pro tbh.

A beta what? bios update I presume? (I'll take a look at the mb websites, thanx).

What about these E8400 "Wolfdale" cpu's, are they not compatible with my mb's? and if so, is that because they use 45nm technology?

Thanx

The E6600 is proberbly fast enough for gaming even at 3.2, but from my E6600 at 3.2GHZ to a 4Ghz E8500 my gaming performance has improved.

the E8400 is fully compatible with the IP35.
atm with the AB9 you need to use the 23 beta BIOS for 45nm compatability so it's unofficial support. Many 965 chipset mobos never got 45nm BIOS upgrades (heck, I think that some may not even have had 1333fsb BIOS upgrades) so don't feel too hard done by.

Thanx guys, have downloaded the latest bios updates for both my MB's, the IP35 does indeed support 45nm technology.

But, I think I'll wait a while for the bios on the AB9 Pro to go past beta stage before I try that one...

Thanx again...
