Fastest internet connection?

So I've just had a couple of mates around who were in awe of my 100Mb connection. Then I was asked what the fastest internet connection in the world is!

Now we're not talking Virgin Media here, or even the crazy fast speeds available in South Korea & on Google Fibre. They were talking about the kind of internet connections that company's like Apple, Microsoft and Google will have piped directly into there HQ's.

Does anyone happen to know the download & upload speeds available when money is no object?

Did you read all the replies?

I certainly did and unless I'm missing something it would seem that Onlive have the fastest connection proven so far.

I believe that the 186Gbps is a one off lab test data transfer accomplishment rather than 24/7 stable connection.

The article even mentions that high-energy physicists were needed in order to achieve that result! :D

Whilst this is no doubt a glimpse in to the future, I don't think it's a 24/7 type of connection right now.

OP is asking about corporate backbones rather than consumer stuff.

Mbit values are nothing really, consumer stuff is now in the Gbit values, Jersey is rolling out 1Gbit down 100Mbit Up home connections so the huge corporate/data center stuff will be in the 10s if not 100s of Gbit/s. As for what the fastest single connection out to the open Web is... Probably someone like Google.

You probably asked the question way better than me! That was exactly my point. If Joe Bloggs can sign up to 1Gbps today then the internet connections that the likes of Google, Apple and Microsoft have in their HQ must be insane!

My limited Google skills are revealing very little information on the subject though. :(

Here's an example of consumer internet available now a days.
