Every couple of years i upgrade my pc for the latest and greatest(ish) and pass my old one on to the office at work.

What is the latest, greatest comb currently available - BUT FOR SENSIBLE MONEY! Looking to spend upto £1000 on the above combo.

I wont be overclocking, i need reliability and silence also, so ideally, the quietest cpu cooler possible-cost not a big consideration.

I use the pc for general home use, BD ripping, and BD playback, it will be based in a home cinema, so that's why it needs to be quiet...SSD needs to be around 240gb, RAM 16gb.

Thanks chaps!

Steve

It's hard to say what the best is.

Here is one option.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £184.99
2 x OCZ Vertex 4 256GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive (VTX4-25SAT3-256G) - With FREE BattleField 3 PC (Retail) £172.99 (345.98)
1 x Gigabyte Z77M-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £86.99
1 x Fractal Design Define Mini Computer Case - Black £74.99
1 x LiteOn IHES112-115 Internal 12x SATA Blu-ray Bulk Combo - Black £56.99
1 x Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 500W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £54.98
1 x OcUK GeForce GT 430 1024MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card £41.99
2 x Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CML8GX3M2A1600C9) £35.99 (71.98)
1 x Silverstone SST-NT06-E CPU-Cooler £28.99
1 x Akasa AK-FN058 Apache Black Super Silent 120mm Fan - 4 Pin PWM £13.99
Total : £976.87 (includes shipping : £12.50).

Put you 2 x 256GB SSD's in, RAID0 them and they'll be super quick.

GT 430 for great HDMI playback.

Pair the cooler with the apache fan for silent cooling. Won't need anything bigger as your not overclocking.

The define is a silent case, the PSU is stone quiet too.

I made it mATX so it's not too big.

Not helpful passey.

@OP: The H60/H80/H100 coolers can be loud as the pump works. And only really needed if overclocking. You won't even see a difference between 16GB and 32GB of RAM.

The 2011 on-boards won't match the Gt430.

Thanks chaps,

would most likely go the i7 route with a full size MB, will the X79-UD5 control the fan speed of the H100? I currently use a H70 but it has this annoying noise from the pump i suspect. Any other silent or very very quiet coolers recomended?

The £1000 is only for the MB CPU SSD and RAM BTW.

Raid 0 the SSD's for 1100 MB/S read speads and solid write speeds. Sure there are faster drives but none as reliable in my opinion :o

I dont need, just want;)

Do these MBs support raid 0 with Trim? I have been genning up and it seems some raid controllers dont support trim...not so good?

Steve

I've ran Raid 0 on the Gene Z for the past year with SSD's and it's been fine.

I know I'm not the only one who says BS to this whole trim thing in raid, but each to their own.
