So long as you have the Rev2 Board, you can shoehorn anything into it. the fastest being the FX60 or Opty 185.

check the little white sticker between northbridge sing and pcie slot. if it has "V2.0" stamped in the bottom right of sticker. your set.

the board has some funny ideas about high fsb overclocks, so the better the default multi the better you are.

with a 12X multi cpu you can get to the max 939 oc'd water/air performance levels with the board ok. i can game at 258*12 (3100) all day.

ignore anyone who recomends the X2 3800+ for the board - you will max out between 2400 and 2700mhz unless you get an exceptional board. (10x multi just isnt enough)

the 4200+ may be a good choice, 3ghz at 272 fsb, i managed that on my old sandy 3700.
if you have the cash and you can sourse one id try for a 4800+ or a 185 opty

thats an AM2 cpu, sorry no can do with that.

The FX57 or 4000+ are your best bets on s939 single core.

or you can try an X2, there are scattered success stories..

Whoops my mistake. Well the FX57 is out based on price! The 4000+ is a contender but can you explain the stepping E's for me in the table that someone posted earlier...

the E steppings are 90nm process.
the E3, E4, E6 have minor core differences (mostly errata & memory controller iirc).
Basically your mobo should be able to run any 939 CPU (as long as you have a BIOS supporting rev. E) but dual core CPUs would have only 1 core usable due to a flaw in the VIA chipset (corrected in the V2.0 with a revised chipset).

Now that's very useful info - thanks. Well my AX8 can support rev. E and looks like it can go to 4000+ single core A64's at rev E4 so I think I'll go hunt one down.
