ROFL... oh dear :)

Well thanking you for your effort,

Any idea how much one of those could be picked up for new/second hand?

No probs! Saw a 3.0ghz go for about 35 delivered on the Members Market here on the forums!

You'll need a Hyper Threader with no more than a 533mhz fsb. They can be a little rare compared to the 800mhz fsb versions so i'd say £40-£45 (£50+ on the bay) for a retail boxed version!

Happy hunting! :)

My old Pentioum 4 3.00 GHz served me very well.
It ran M2TW, Half Life 2, Rainbow 6 Vegas, Supreme Commander etc just fine..... (M2TW and HL2 ran on max settings, Rainbow 6 Vegas ans Sup Comm required a few little tweaks to get going well :) )

3.06 GHz is not slow by any means, however it is only single core and so future games etc might suffer as a consequence....

Have you considered going for a new mobo and E6300? I assume you have AGP gfx and DDR1 RAM?

The Asrock 775 DUAL-VSTA is a good motherboard if you're not planning on overclocking much. You'd be getting a damn good upgrade from what you currently have along with dual core support for around £200. From there you'd have a simple task of updating the gfx and RAM when you can afford to and then getting a new motherboard. Once you have a new motherboard you'd be able to boost the 6300 well past 3Ghz with any luck.

Unless of course you have the cash to upgrade the cpu, memory, gfx and motherboard all in one go?
