Hi, ignore my sig (that's a v old rig). I have i7-2600k @ 4.2 on a P67A-GD65 (r3).

BIOS OC is basically changing CPU multi from 35 to 42. XMP is set too and RAM volts are at 1.65 max (set my auto).

I've getting random failure in Win 8 and I notice RAM will not pass memtest (even without OC). So I guess my 2 x 4gb (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX) may be giving up on me.

If I need to by new RAM I'll go for a 2 x 8gb kit. I was looking at the

The red LEDs would go well in my case (I need to measure as I don't have much clearance under the CPU h/sink).

Does anyone:

1. Have any comments about the Crucial RAM (compared to my current Kingston)?

2. Have any better suggestions (no point suggesting high profile stuff though).

3. Know if, assuming my Kingston RAM is still OK, whether I would be better running the 16gb kit on its own or the full 24gb kit in quad channel?

Thanks!

If your RAM wont past memtest, replace it with a 1600Mhz kit then:

Manually set RAM voltage to 1.5 Volts
Manually set RAM timings to spec
Manually set RAM speed to 1600Mhz

Done.

1) The Crucial RAM will outperform teh Kingston slightly as its C8 compared to C9.

2) Samsung green is teh don of low profile RAM and overclocks very well. With your CPU go 9-11-11-25 1T at 2133mhz 1.65v

3) You cant use quad channel with a 2600K it only has a Dual channel IMC. The best option to take full advantage of dual channel is to use either two or four sticks. So 8gb 2 x4 , 16 gb 2x8gb or 4x4gb or 4 x 8gb. Be aware that using 8gb sticks and or using 4 sticks can result in a lose of stable OC on CPU. This all depends on the strength of the CPU's IMC.
