Hi all.

I'm looking for a way to transfer movies from my phone to my pc. At the moment I use USB3 but it's pretty slow.

My phone is USB C and my motherboard is https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B550-AORUS-ELITE-V2-rev-10-11/sp#sp

My board appears to have enough pcix to slot a card into, or it has a USB c header on the board.

My rear panel has these connectors
  1. 1 x DisplayPort
  2. 1 x HDMI port
  3. 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A*/USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports (red)
    * For AMD Ryzen™ 5000 Series/3000 Series Processors only.
  4. 3 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports
  5. 2 x USB 2.0/1.1 ports
  6. 1 x Q-Flash Plus button
  7. 1 x RJ-45 port
  8. 1 x optical S/PDIF Out connector
  9. 5 x audio jacks
could I just buy a cable as a short term solution?

would I better with a front panel docking station?

Or a new card that will pop into the pcix?

I'm confused and just wanting fast data transfer speeds.

Thanks all.

How slow are we talking? Knowing this will help work out your bottleneck, however I am going to get in early and say it is likely not any of your interconnects, but the phone's memory itself.

Your phone may use a usb c port but doesn't mean it is using the usb c speed standards, most phones even with usb c use usb 2 speeds.

I would check what phone you have and the usb c standard it is using for speed.

What transfer mode are you using? PTP / MPT / Mass storage / Android Auto?

That can make some difference.

As an alternative option though, set up a network share on your PC/NAS, and then you can copy files over Wifi using a file manager like CX File Explorer. This would at least rule out the USB as the source of slow transfers.

My phone says File transfer/android auto.

Can you explain the network share thing for me please?

Assuming your movies are all in a folder on your PC, you'd right click that folder, properties -> Sharing, and then create a network share.

On your phone you can then view that network share using a file manager app, and copy the files across onto your phones storage that way
