After going on a driving experience day on Friday, I've really caught the speed bug. What could i get for 8k that would scratch my performance itch?

Fast in a straight line, fast round corners, what are you after? How much can you afford to spend on insurance?

Evos, scoobies, supra TT's, lots of potential fast car sillyness....

Impreza STi Type-R, and you will have loads of change for a few go faster bits and to keep it in fuel and insurance. They are really quick straight line and corners. Reason this one popped into my head is that I was looking a couple of days ago at the price of them these days, and it is shockingly low now! Can get a '99 with <60k on the clock for 3k OTR no problems. Irks me a bit as I'm looking at spending that much on a much older Civic :/

Ok i'll give more detail, should have done this in the first place. Apologies

Im 21 so insurance is unfortunately a big consideration. Also this will be an everyday car, so the kit car stuff is out im afraid. I've been looking at evo's on pistonheads, they're a big consideration but i dont know if my pockets are deep enough for the insurance. I think i may have to compromise just to keep the insurance down.

It's not just insurance you need to worry about, infact with a car like this its the least of your worries. General running costs are quite a lot more than something like a Fiesta..

Im living at home, so have a fair bit of disposable income each month. All depends on how much the running costs are though i guess. All needs to be considered i suppose.

But you worry about affording the insurance - the running costs on anything vaguely quick will probably be MORE than the cost of an expensive insurance policy. Thats my point.

An £8k Evo requires a service every 4500 miles. These are also not cheap services.

Then you've got to consider reliability. Very fast cars are expensive - cheap ones are cheap becuase they are getting on a bit, and thus reliability will become an issue unless its a TVR in which case reliability was an issue the day it rolled out of the factory gates anyway. When stuff goes bang, which from time to time it will, it will again cost big money to put right.

I'm not trying to put you off, having a car thats reasonably quick is great fun, but make sure you know what its going to cost you - its going to cost you a lot.

Well you can get to 155 from all sorts of cars,
Mondeo ST, LS 430, Merc S Class, BMW 7 series V12

Or you can go to a nutty jap route.

That's where the compromise is going to come in. Cheap thrills is what im after i guess. Id rather get a good example of a cheaper car than a bad example of a more expensive one.

Kit Car of some sort as weekend/track car only. Fast, within budget, yet reduced costs of running as only using it 1 day a week!

I cant wait untill I can afford a kit car!
