Quick question. I've got a routine blood test tomorrow and I'm meant to fast 12 hours prior or they won't do the test. I intended to have a later dinner than normal, but possibly a bit too late, I don't know. I swallowed my last bite of food at 11.05pm. Test is for 11.20am in the morning. Think that'll still be ok? I'm thinking of digestion still going on after 11.20pm, or perhaps that doesn't matter?

I know question sounds odd. What I mean is, should I have finished eating by say latest 9 or 10pm so that the process of digestion is basically done by 12 hours prior to the test? Lol, don't worry, it was actually a pretty stupid question, and just me panicking. :p

Phone them first thing in the morning and see if they have capacity to reschedule you for 12:05 just to be safe. They say 12hr fast but assume most people aren't foolish enough to chance it by eating that close to the deadline as it should really be a 13hr fast.

Yeah that's kind of what I meant.

Mate the test will be fine in reality most fasting bloods can be done after 6 hours of fasting.

That's good to know. On the other hand, if they cancel it, I won't have to have the injection tomorrow, which is good because I hate injections. I'm a wimp. :D

Really?

12 hours is 12 hours... They probably give some leeway anyway...

Yeah I was thinking that. And like rotters was saying, they probably only need 6 hours prior to the test. They probably tell people to fast for longer than is needed to be on the safe side.

Lol.

Well, all done. I can remove the cotton pad and sticky tape from my left arm in a few minutes. Isn't it silly how we worry about things like jabs, then it's over in a matter of seconds :)

Quick update. Went to my doc just now and she was very happy with my results of the blood test that have been returned. :) Glucose levels very good she said, value 4.4. They only start worrying over a value of about 7. No anaemia, kidneys and liver fine, normal white blood cell count and a bunch of other things on the screen all absolutely fine, so that's good. The most surprising thing is when she just did another blood pressure test. 134/88. I'm like wtf? It was 150 last time on the 3rd attempt, and 166 on the first. Not bad then for my age, over 50.

I'm guessing a lot of that was stress due to my mum being ill recently.
But also, I've really cut down on salt and garbage food in the last two and half weeks, so I'm wondering if that has made the biggest difference, in which case, I'm just gonna continue to keep salt and crap food to a minimum. I've mostly been eating chicken, fresh brocolli (I did slightly salt the water) and jacket spuds, and hardly any sweet stuff, no cakes, biscuits and sweets, just very occassionally.
