Hi,

I'm hoping one of you kind guys and girls can help!

I need to format an SD Card to FAT 12 (yes, 12, not 16 or 32).

Is anyone aware of an app or command line step that will let me do this - I currently have access to XP, Vista and win 7 OS and none of them support this FAT size.

Your help is appreciated

Thanks

I had a simlar thing a while back.

If you pop the card in a reader under XP and try and format it FAT it should give you the option to use Fat12, 16 or 32.

However, if you have a card that is 2GB or larger (I think) then it's just say FAT which is FAT32 - not sure how to get aorund that

use diskpart in the command line

diskpart
list disk
select disk (correct disk number)
clean
create partition primary
select partition 1
active
format fs=fat12
assign
exit

job done

No worries :)

Diskpart is awesome, more ppl need to know about it :p

i don't think we want to be spreading powerful command-line formatting utilities to the masses...

*shudder*

can you imagine? 300 new threads in General Hardware "help, help!, i erased my SSD by accident and then defragged it! can i has my data back?" :p

i think not *shudder*
