Looking for inspiration for fat free, or low fat & low cal dinner ideas, I'm not a massive eater so its only for small simple ideas for one. Any suggestions? Google just floods me with many impractical ideas, recipes that are too intricate to make especially just for one person, any great wesbites I might be missing out on?

Thanks for any info! :)

Is there any specific reason you are looking to cut out fats? They are relatively high in calories but don't contribute to gaining fat in any other sense. Eating fat does not make you fat - eating too many calories makes you fat, especially if you are eating excessive carbohydrates. If you are looking to lose weight, try cutting out excess carbs as well as excess fats.

Chicken stirfrys are an easy one but watch the quantity of oil you are putting in and add your own spices rather than adding a sugary sauce!

If you can stomache it, a large pot of unflavoured cottage cheese with some wholemeal ryvitas isn't a bad lazy meal.... certainly not particularly tasty though.

Chicken or pasta bulked up with veg, spinach, rocket, tomatoes and so on are my go to healthy meals. Good liberal use of spices can help if you go down the boring food route.

Do you have an idiots guide recipe for a decent stir fry?

some oil in wok and heat till smoking.
add some chopped up pre-cooked chicken, and stir for 1 min.
add some beansprouts, and chopped spring onions and stir 1 min again.
add some pre-cooked and cooled down (cold) noodles, keep stirring ;)
add 1tsp curry powder, stir, and a bit of chilli powder if you like a tang off it. keep stirring ;)
add around 2 tsp of oyster sause, (optional but makes a difference).
a pinch of salt and sugar.
then a few drops of seaseme oil and soy sauce to taste

Well truth be told I only eat 3 meals a day,

11am-12pm: Bowl of Super Berries Muesli, Orange Juice, Cuppa.
6pm: SlimFast Milkshake & Alpine Choc Bar (Low Cal), Cranberry Juice.
9pm: Bowl of cornflakes (9pm), Cuppa.

I only have skimmed milk in my tea (4/5 a day), and I at least drink 4 pints of water a day.

I don't do this all week, Friday for instance I have fish & chips for dinner (breaded & handful of oven chips), Saturday I'll have a fry up for breakfast and steak & chips for dinner with peppers/mushrooms, but continue the above Sunday.

Parents are not impressed with me and say I should be eating vegetables & fruit, is it too extreme?:o

My Taiwanese wife looked at this and nodded so I'd say this is a good guide to a stir fry :p

Two lots of cereal and a faux milkshake almost every day? Sounds like a quick way to get ill to me... there's no proper food in there. And why are you not eating breakfast at breakfast time? If you don't kickstart your metabolism every day you're fighting a losing battle... No offense, but some people are nuts...

Fish with veg.
This is a good option imho. For a simple dish try baking whole trout, just put some sliced lemon and a little butter in the middle and bake in foil. Serve with some steamed green vegetables, I like samphire, broccoli and/or fine green beans.

Carbs with quite a bit of sugar plus a sugary drink.
Loads more sugar in the shake, a chocolate bar?! and another sugary drink.
More high carb/sugary food with little nutritional value.

They're right, you're both not eating enough and eating all the wrong things.

First, that is barely any food whatsoever. Add up how many calories that is - assuming you are a man of average height and do regular exercise, you could be losing notable weight at as much as 2200 calories a day depending on your metabolism. The quantity of food you are eating looks like be about a thousand calories or so, it's way too low! Your body will lock into starvation mode and you will lose fat at a relatively low rate - not good unless you want to end up looking like a weedy chubby blob!

Secondly, your diet is way too carbohydrate based - pretty much the exact oposite of what you would want if you are trying to lose fat. You need to increase your protein and fat levels considerably.

My diet is far from perfect, but I am losing fat at the moment and have the following diet (typical day):

Breakfast:
Porridge oats / 2 slices of wholemeal bread
Protein Shake

Lunch:
Sandwiches (4 slices wholemeal bread) with a chicken breast
Apple
Banana

Dinner:
Lean meat (chicken, fish) with vegetables

Supper / snack (optional depending on dinner)
Lean meat, protein shake, cottage cheese (minimal carbs)

Ideally I'd want to cut out some of the carbs from the bread, but I find this managable. I'm 6'2" and go to the gym practially ever day, just for reference.

Cut out sugars, it's amazing the difference it makes to Hungary.
Hell for three days as you crave it then you don't miss it, well untill you slip and indulge just once.

Add a few chives, pepper and a pinch of salt and tastes much better. Or 1/4 spoon of pesto.

Plenty of ideas on that BBC link above.

Little and often is best advice I was given when eating/preparing food - same for evening meal, shouldn't need to be large portion.
