So there i was doing a bit of shopping on my own and having a cursory glance in the Ann Summers window...as you do, when i noticed a rather sizeable model in one of the window pictures.

Apparently some size 16 woman one a competition to be the new face of Ann Summers, and this is her:

Now, do not get me wrong, I LOVE curvy women and I'm not a fan of women who have the figure of a 10 year old boy ( i.e. Keira Knightley).Neither do i think the girl who won that competition is hideous.

I do think though ,that essentially, she is fat. It keeps going on about 'curvy' women but let's face it, she is not just curvy...

For years we have had people complaining that the stick thin models we see everywhere are causing women and young girls to damage their health by getting too thin. Now however, Ann Summer seem to have just gone too far the other way and promoted a look that is, essentially, overweight.

I then walked into Marks and Spencer's and was greeted with Lisa Snowdon in a bikini....much better!

Fair enough. I wouldn't say she was 'fat', more 'big' or 'tubby', but then they are all terms that are quite subjective. Whatever she is, she represents far more women in the UK than most high street models, she is sporting lingerie sold by the shop in question specifically for women of those dimensions and the photographs are tasteful. I see no problem!

I do! We have heard for years that stick thin women models are a dangerous thing for society due to women having unrealistic expectations of what they should look like/becoming anorexic e.t.c

Then, when the news is constantly going on about a dangerous increase in the amount of people in this country being overweight, we now have overweight models.

Yes, she's a larger lady but she's not morbidly obese or anything like that. She obviously feels comfortable in her body and skin. Females are under constant pressure that they need to be a certain size, shape and look and this causes all number of problems both physically and mentally.

.

Yes but the worry is that if this sets a precedent, then women will think it is acceptable to be overweight.

I can't believe anyone thinks that she has a healthy weight/figure for a 20 year old woman

"Women will think it's acceptable to be overweight" -.....?.

Are you aware of the kind of language you are using?.

While it may not be healthy, people are free to make up there own minds - acceptance should be mandatory - as long as they don't say "THIS WOMEN IS THE PERFECT WEIGHT FOR HEALTH" beneath it, I fail to see what the problem is.

So you think it would be absolutely fine if everyone decided to be hugely obese then?

Is she overweight though, or are you just comparing it to some misguided misogynistic idea that the media has forced upon you?

Why can't she be of that size if she wants to be? Are women now not allowed to gorge on cream cakes because you don't think it's acceptable?

Ha. I am not basing it on the media's portrayal of women at all. I am basing it on modern medical advice.

Or should we ignore that and all become fat?

On the one hand I dont agree with the usual ann summers model, as its a shape that is near impossible to attain naturally.

They are very thin, with low body fat, yet thanks to a boob job, they still manage to have massive boobs. There isnt really any way to do that naturally, and the way they advertise using these types of models does make women thnk that this is what they need to aim for.

On the other hand, this girl is overweight, if not obese, and thats not a healthy image to be showing people is acceptable, never mind attractive! Its certainly way more than "curvy"

I used to be size 6, now im a 10/12 which is probably "Fat" compared to how i was before, but id rather look like this than bones. Its closer to the definition of what id call curvy than obesity is anyway, and if I were to get to that size, id be wanting to do something about it rather than celebrating it.

Well i am glad a woman has agreed with my OP!

Well it is nice to see my thread has now descended into a discussion about whether one can "get it in" a fat bird.
