well i did it i blew my new system.

I5_2500K. 0verclockd to 4.5
Asus P8Z68-V.
Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz.
Thermaltake toughpower 750w PSU.

got every thing running last night.
core voltage was at 1.3v
decided to see how far i could lower the voltage.
went back to 1.3v but instead of the 3 i hit 8.
set to save and exit and noticed it to late.
so it tried to reboot at 1.8v.
screen came up but at bottom it said cpu voltage error press f1 or something.
pressed f1 but it hung befor i could get into bios.
now i get nouthing on screen just a black screen video is not imputing.
when i start the computer all fans start up including the cpu fan.
then i get the red mem ok light stay on.
tryed pressing the mem ok and it goes through its series 3 times i think.
then it goes back to red.
tryed resing the bios with the jumper.
tryed taking out the battery and unpluging the pc from mains.
nouthing.

any one no how bad ive screwd up ?
have i blown the mother board ?
have i blown the cpu ?
have i blown the memory ?
or have i destroyed the lot ?

im absalouty gutted right now and i fear the worst ive blown every thing.
please let me no guys thanks for reading.

Don't panic,if oc failed by asking you to press f1 chances are it didn't apply settings

Power pc off completly and take out mb battery, leave out for 30mins or overnight, then put in and try booting up,it will reset BIOS to default so don't worry

did that for 24 hours.
im sure somethings gone but i dont want to throw good money after bad.

How on earth did you manage to hit 8 instead of 3?

it was late i was nackerd but your right how on earth indeed.
please dont scold me i no im a nob.
i just need to no whitch is the most likely.

If you've tried all those things it only leaves CPU or mb as faulty/damaged,would be good to test CPU in another board if you can

i have no way of testing any of this or i would have been abile to find out.
my self i think i have fried the cpu.
but i dont want to lay out £200 on a new cpu and find out its the mobo or mem.

heres the setings i was running at the time:

it was running fine but i thourt temps looked a little high at 28 idle and 58 with prime after an hour.
so thourt ide lower the volts , the rest is in the post above.

Ouch - OP had CPU current capability set at 140%, LLC on ultra and then set vcore at 1.8v. I suspect that combination may have killed the CPU, sorry to say. Hopefully someone can help you test it to make sure, but I'd prepare for the worst.

Good luck getting it sorted - I'd chalk this one up to experience.

yup me to.

only hope i have is i havent taken the mother board too.
little light at the end of the tunnel had the ram tested and works perfect.
so now the dillema do i go buy a new motherboard or cpu ?
if any one can give me any indication as to what the likely hood of me
having blown both mobo and cpu it would really help.

its impossible tu burn 2500 without modified bios its just bios

just take off cpu and look on pins if they arent burn then u need to fix motherboard

i had 6 2500k nad 2600k oc on water and ice voltage 1.9

used modified bios and only one died cause killed memory controller

you sure about that m8 ?
all i no so far is the memory is ok ive tested that.
i did think about the memory controller but i had the mem set at 1.5v.
if it was the memory controller wouldent it have taken the mem with it ?
the memory has a max volt of 1.65.

well just inspected the chip its self and if you look at this picture the contact circled on mine is burnt or at least looks black.

n2l4ra.jpg

so thats the cpu bumed.
question is could the motherboard be fried too ?

the picture above is just an image taken from the net not mine.
i just circled the contact that looks burnt to me.

you dont know until you test it,being burnt a little doesnt mean its fried, looks fine to me,and the internal memory controller is different to the dram voltage

i had a z68 motherboard with lots of burnt pins and one pin completely missing stuck chip in and works fine, please id advise you to take it to someone with similar motherboard and test the cpu, could even take it to pc shop and ask them to test the cpu/motherboard for you

thing is even if i new some one whitch i dont , ide be very reluctant sticking
a dammaged cpu in there setup or sticking there cpu in a possibly damaged motherboard.
im thinking of buying a Intel Celeron G440 1.60GHz Socket LGA1155 Processor
just to test the motherboard for £30 what do you guys think ?

Not a bad idea, I tested a friends hdd (nothing visibly wrong with components) from a caddy which they had connected the wrong transformer to, it borked my board. So it is possible for damaged components to take other ones with them.

yup allready counting the cost of a new cpu with out adding pain to injury.
even more worried about sticking a new i52500k into this mobo.
just dont no how to go forth right now.
i cant see anything physically wrong with the mobo but to me that means nouthing.

i failed not the cpu :(
confirmed i blew the cpu with to many volts so i will not rma.
motherboard fine memory fine.
thanks for all your help guys.

mod please close.
