Fatal Youtube stunt

I remember this happening can’t believe she got such a short sentence.
Sadly things like this will only get more and more common with people trying to come up with any old crap video to “go viral”. god I hate that saying.
It was in the news not long back when they done a study in schools about what they want to be when they leave and the overwhelming winner was a “YouTuber” not doctors or engineers etc they all want to get paid for running around filming ridiculous things like stupid pranks or unboxing everyday mundane electrical goods :(

Stupid is as stupid does.

Just a shame he had a chance to procreate first.

Seriously though, what is wrong with people these days? So desperate for fame that they will risk their lives doing stuff like this??

Well apparently "Perez told investigators Ruiz had convinced her to participate by showing her other books he had shot where the bullet did not go through to the other side."

Maybe the books he’d experimented on, and showed her, were volumes of Encyclopaedia Britannica, but for the
actual shooting attempt, he’d used a copy of, “A complete list of the advantages to the U.K., in electing J. Corbyn.”

If I recall, he actually did the testing with a different handgun. So the earlier tests did stop the bullets, but not from a DE.

To be fair to her, it's almost entirely his fault. She was just idiotic enough to go along with it.

I fancy a bit of YouTube fame, so I have the video camera out, an old Rupert annual and the Remington, now, the wife, she holds the book a bit away from her body, right...? ;)

Idiots.... The things people do these days.... And for what... To get noticed.

Complete and utter fools.

Brue said that he was satisfied that the sentence held Perez accountable for "culpable negligence that led to the tragic and completely avoidable death."

The sentence seems sensible actually. They accepted she wasn't the instigator and had no intent to hurt him, but she still needed to be punished for being involved.

It's a rather lenient sentence. Not sure what sort of message this sends out really, it certainly doesn't do much to discourage people from being idiots around firearms.

thats a bizarrely short sentence

Presumably the court was convinced that it was his idea and she is just almost as ignorant, reckless and stupid as he was. Although I agree that it's a bizarrely short sentence for manslaughter.

I wonder if she has made any money since from the other videos on her channel, which have had an increase in views due to the publicity from this case. Which meant that the killing succeeded, I suppose, since the goal was to get more views on Youtube. Which, as everyone knows, is the second important thing in life after the number of imaginary friends you have on Facebook.

The biggest thing I found really weird is that she has to spend 10 days in jail broken up over 3 years. I'm guessing that allows her time to find a part time job and look after her kid, but still, very weird.

I was expecting her to get dozens of years of jail time.

I'm happy that hasn't happened. She deserves punishment but nothing over the top like how the US justice system normally gives out.

They're basically punishing her for being stupid, she didn't do anything with the intent to injure him.

I mean from her pov what she was doing was pretty similar to this:

if there was some manufacturing fault in the glass and the person in that video was accidentally shot then we'd probably not expect the person in that video to be prosecuted as the risk is much lower and we'd be happy it was a rare event. She's done something rather similar, she had (from her perspective) and accident from a similar event with a set up that most of us would realise is rather flawed

So she's basically been punished for being a complete idiot.
