His software is bespoke and does not run on Vista. He just needs the cheapest thing going. I intend to buy him a notebook with vista business and then I will swap my top spec. notebook XP license with his. And then install and accept the EULA on my notebook so I get Vista business and he gets pro - both legit. But most companies are doing preloaded OS :(

which companies are still supplying the original media so I can install on my £1000+ laptop? :)

Not that I know of :( Really find this incredibly annoying that you don't get the original cd. I've just bought a new vaio and you had to use two blank dvds to create the restore function. You'd think that if you spending so much on a new laptop they would at least supply an original os disk.

Dell will give you a Windows disc if you pay the extra £5 for it. Apparently you can also get one shortly after ordering by phoning them up and complaining that there's no disc, but I avoided hassle and just paid for it when ordering my notebook.

It purely installs Windows, it's not one of these fancy Restore CDs and it doesn't come with any pre-installed drivers or apps.

My Dell lappy (which I must admit is a superb bit of kit  ) came with a Windows disc and a seperate drivers disk. No activation either. :)

I highly doubt that's legit.

couldnt you buy a laptop and get the vista upgrade coupons! ......some are only charging for the p+p of the discs!

.....so you could get a dell maybe with xp pro on now and the vista upgrade coupons for when it comes out in jan and bang it on your machine!

....but then again you will prob be only be able to bang it on the machine you bought knowing dell!
