Fault on Xbox One X Saved Games Missing from Cloud

I've put about 40 hours into Fallout 4 and a little earlier I was presented with a save game error and the message said to delete saves off the console and resync with the cloud when starting the games again.

After the resync on Fallout 4 the most recent save is just under 6 hours playtime which was about 3 odd weeks ago, but I've been playing for a couple of hours almost daily and I'm obviously saving as I'm going.

Is there a way to get it back where it was or is it gone forever?

Can't understand where the most recent saves have gone. In the recent achievements in the dashboard I can see all the achievements I've made up to the 40 hour mark. Rebooted console, signed out of live, nothing with the saves, but the achievements are still visible.

Gutted if it is gone as I'm not putting those hours back into it. I've checked my other games and they all seem fine.

I've gone back to where the Fallout 4 has dumped me (heartbreaking!) and carried on and after about 5 minutes I get the same error message about deleting saved games and re-syncing from the cloud, the error code is 0x80831002

Searching on that error code suggests 3 possible solutions

1 Full Shutdown
2 Full Reset
3 Send to Microsoft for repair

I'll try 1 and 2 and see what happens, fingers crossed one of them sorts it. If not it's under warranty so if it needs to go away the world won't end, I kept the box thankfully, it will force me to catch up on some PS4 stuff I've been neglecting! Just a pain in the backside

I did a full shutdown and the issue hasn't occurred again.....so far.

Based on experience it should have happened again by now, if it does I'll organise an rma. I've not seen it in any other game mind only Fallout 4

RMA sorted, after about an hour of Fallout it did it again and it also has done it on RDR2 and it's doing some odd stuff in the dashboard as well.

I presume they just fit a new HDD?

This is the first Xbox I've had, I've plenty of games installed that I've bought from the store and also gamepass, fallout was the only disc I had.

When the console comes back presumably with nothing installed on it how do I get the downloads back on the machine, is it just case of signing into live an everything downloads again. Is there a list of things I've previously downloaded and I just download again?

And I presume saved games are in the the live cloud?

Well this bizarre - I've done a reset as requested by microsoft in preparation for shipping and the console did all sorts of weird locking up and stuff I honestly thought I had bricked it, before I did this I removed the Fallout disc. I didn't select wipe everything reset just the OS.

When it came back on I fired up BFV and RDR2 and they both seemed ok. I put the Fallout disc in and it wouldn't launch saying it was corrupt - I wasn't sure whether this was the installation or the disc, so I deleted the installation and attempted to install again from scratch, to be told the same issue - corrupt.

So, this has now got me wondering if everything is ok and it was just Fallout that was knackered? Since I got the console it has been perfect, the save game issue only started on Fallout 4. I've got until April 6th to use the shipping label, I was intending to ship it tomorrw but I may hang fire until next week and see what happens.

Ive never heard of a buggy Bethesda game ;) , seriously though Fallout is held together with sticky tape

Lol, it's certainly looking that way. The disc is refusing to play ball now and with the original installation removed all seems well.

I'm going to hammer the console over the next few days and see what happens, I've got the shipping label ready to print out if it does it again.

Sicne I've reset the console and removed the FO installation the long pauses between menus in the dashboard (to the point I thought the console had locked up) have gone and the console did seem really clunky overall, all of a sudden it is how it used to be.

I also completely forgot that when playing Fallout (and only Fallout) there would be random HDMI handshake dropputs.

I'm tempted to give Fallout to a mate and get him to install it on his machine and see what happens.

The only other thing to point out is Fallout is the only disc based game I've used since I've had the console (October 18), could it be that? Tempted to pick up something cheap on disc to try it.
