Right, well recently i've noticed a weird sound coming from my XFX 8800GT when I play games under D3D render (works fine with OpenGL). It's like a low profile screeching sound. Could this be a faulty with the card?

Probably just capacitor or coil whine - unfortunatly not unusual and not directly an indication of a fault as such...
