Faulty Corsair PSU?

Ive just recently built a new system this week using the corsair GS600 psu. I noticed yesterday every now and again it will give off a light screeching kind of noise. Also randomly the psu fan suddenly briefly spins up to full speed and then back down again every so often. Its kind of annoying actually. Is this normal for this psu does anyone know?

With the GS600 it only spins if required, and that could be a matter of seconds.

I've had mine for just under a month, and its never been on 'full speed' for more than 5 seconds I'd say, even during a 2 hour session of Bioshock.

I haven't had any screeching mind you, that doesn't sound pleasant!

I think you might find the sound is from when the PSU is at the point when the fan is kicking in, I have the same problem with mine as the fan stops and starts it produces this sound so I have RMA'd it.

Seems to be a few reported issues like this with the GS series PSU's. I'd recommend just getting it replaced and if possible with an alternative model.

Do you know how the return service works with corsair? do you have to send yours and wait a long time to get one back or do they send out a replacement and take yours at the door? It was bought from a competitors website by the way

If it's within 12months try to get it sent back to the retailer as it's their responsibility by law within the first year.

Otherwise it's a matter of sending it oversea's to Corsair, if you ask them nicely they might arrange a collection at their cost though.

Then you will be fine with a refund ... I'm getting a refund for mine ... I have ordered a replacement one first so once it arrives I'll send this one back for a refund on the RMA OC have given me, just give the OC guys a call tomorrow and you will be fine I'm sure.

It could be coil whine, get in touch with Corsair, and tell them you are not paying charges to get it delivered, They will send a courier, they sent me one next day, i had a replacement within 7 days, and that was holland.

You can arrange a will call where they send you a replacement first so they hold the value of the PSU on your credit card until they receive your faulty PSU

Don't bother going to Corsair, speak to your retailer. Within 28days you can have a refund no question.

I think im going to order a seasonic one and get a refund on the corsair. Given it seems to be a bit of a common thing with this specific one. ill get it from overclockers too seeing as they have the discount at the moment

I wish Antec had done this, would have saved me £37 but mine was over 2 yrs old.

My hx850 was over 12 months old, and corsair still changed it for me, paying the courier to pick it up and return it. And i had a replacement of the hx850 v2 within 7 days. This is why i will always use corsair from now on.
