Faulty DVD

I've just tried to play a DVD and after it made a bunch of odd noises I had a look at it. There's a bubble of plastic on the clear inner bit that seems to be causing the problem.

Any ideas how I can go about flattening out the bubble? It's on the rear side of the disc.

You wont be able to flatten the bubble out, if its new, send it back and have it replaced.

Can't send it back

Going to try and melt it with a soldering iron, see if that works. It's a bin job anyway so it's worth a go.

EDIT:

AHA! A quick jab with the soldering iron and a nail file to smooth it down and I have a working DVD.

The thread can be closed now.

Who would have thought my dad would actually came up with a good idea for a change.

That actually worked? On the underside of the DVD with the files!?

if it was the inner ring (quite likely), then it probably would work as that part doesn't have any data on it - i've seen a few disks with problems in that area of the disk, alhough none serious enough to stop it reading
