So the GPU seems to be dead and I find myself wondering what's the best thing to do with it now? HDD and memory have been upgraded and it has a license for Vista and XP but the battery is dead and gone.

  • Source a new mobo to replace it or maybe a slightly uprated one which will fit.
  • Send it to someone to professionally replace the GPU.
  • Split it and sell it for parts.

I know a certain auction site that tends to have such mobo's but no idea how to figure out what other mobo's will fit. Any suggestions on the best way to go? It's only been used as a media pc for the past few years and would be the same if fixed.

I think I've got a heat gun that's for stripping paint. Suppose it's worth a try but isn't that generally a temporary fix?

*edit* and if corruption is involved (mine has never had any artifacting or overheating)

If you are careful then you should be able to make it last 6 months +.

I would also reccomend using copper shims after wards so its cooled better.

And use Arctic MX 4.

Make sure you use flux when you do it as it cleans the joints when you do it.
