faulty gtx590??

Furmark doesn't count as the 590 uses a limiter for that scenario - without the limiter it would blow past 700watt easy.

In crysis the 590 uses a clear 100watt more than the 295. Also if the op is using multiple monitors, 120Hz panels or some other scenarios like desktop gadgets using hardware surfaces then the GPUs won't clock down to idle properly on the desktop and still use a lot of power in "idle".

All good points.

I'll put the 590 in a intel 920 x58 unit when i get home thats got a tagan 850 but only 1 HD and 1 fan and see if it BSOD's that too. its also running Win7 pro so should be a fair test

:(

Bit disappointed by this whole issue to be honest, besides the quietness and cooler running the other main reason for buying nvidia was because I have had such good trouble free running from my past 7900gtx sli, then8800gt sli and then GTX295. I have got used to nvidia just working ‘out the box’ as it were.

I game at high res (30’’ screen) quite often and like all the candy on but do not want to buy ATI, would you guys:

a. Wait till they fix these 590’s then get another
b. Buy 2 GTX580’s
c. Buy 2 GTX570’s
d. Stick with the GTX295 and wait for next gen
Performance wise the gtx590 DOES slaughter everything I threw at it (till it crashes)
I tend to invest heavily and then want to leave the graphics side of things along for 18 months to 2 years, was going to WC the 590.

Advice appreaciated

RMA it and if they don't have a 590 to replace it with get a 3Gig GTX580? the extra VRAM would be useful at 2560x. Though it might be trickier finding a 2nd 3gig 580 down the line to SLI with it.

TBH we are moving along towards Kepler now, tho its a few months away yet, seems silly to splash too much on GPUs atm.
