Is it possible for a heatpipe to go faulty?

Got a laptop here thats hitting 90c when idle. Fan is screaming away and there is a nice blast of air coming out but its not even slighty warm.

No dust on the fins and have just reseated it twice with new paste after cleaning with isopropanol as usual.

Base of laptop isnt hot either.

The cpu is a core2duo (memron) with tjmax of 100c. It shuts down when it hits about 96c.

Could it be a faulty heatpipe or could it be a broken temp sensor on the cpu itself?

cheers for reading :)

Its definately seated properly. Done jobs like that many times before.

If it was the temp sensor reading high then there should still be some heat coming out of it but there isnt.

I suppose the only way to be sure is to buy a new heatpipe for it and see if that sorts it.

Just fitted a new heatpipe to it and now theres a nice blast of hot air coming out and no more shut downs :)

First time i have seen one of them go faulty but there you go :)
