Faulty I/O shield for Mobo?

I recently got my rig up and running, but it's been without a I/O shield because I cant fit it in, my motherboard gets in almost all the way, but for less than half a cm the stand off screws wont match the motherboard. This isn't the stand offs fault, or the cases it's because of the I/O shield.

I want to know if its safe to leave it without an I/O shield, or can I leave it as I have done now (with the I/O shield sort of popping in from the outside, rather the inside)

Like I said I've tried a lot of things, but because of less than half a cm the stand offs wont fit and its because of some parts of the shield, when I had received the shield I sort of took out a lot of those metal tabs (I did it before as it made things a lot easier) but on this the mobo wouldnt accept it and half a cm wouldnt fit in.

No real need for an I/O shield at all, all it does it stop crud getting into the gaps in the holes, and makes everything look a little neater :)

I'd keep it in case you want to sell the board on, but there's nothing stopping you running without it.

some i/o shields are abit tough you have to physically push the mb hard against it and plop a screw into a standoff quick to hold it there and then put the other screws in ect

it will be fine without one though, you can always close the gap off with black electrical tape at the back
