Faulty laptop/GPU?

Hi guys

Just after some advice here really...

I'm using an MSI laptop with 960m GPU but when plugged into my monitor via DP or HDMI the screen will randomly stop displaying for about half a second and then come back.

It's REALLY annoying as you can imagine but I'm unsure if it's a hardware issue or perhaps a sketchy driver.

Everything else I've ever had plugged into the monitor has been fine so I very much doubt the monitor is to blame.

Any suggestions, fixes etc welcome!

Thanks

Windows 10, it happened with both the installed drivers and the latest and I've only noticed it on desktop. Screen goes completely black, nothing is displayed.

I've tried using 960m and Integrated independently but issue is still present...

Double checking, when you say you installed drivers, is that for the GPU and monitor? A quick google implies to me it may be a problem with Windows generic display driver for the monitor itself.

Otherwise all you can really do is the old cable / monitor / laptop config swaps to zero in on precisely what's at fault.

I'm assuming it happens when the laptop is connected to a power outlet?

I've uninstalled the NVidia drivers, problem persists. I've installed everything again clean, problem persists. I've tried other cables (HDMI), problem persists.

Pretty damn annoying.

You could maybe try an older Nvidia driver to see if it's just the most recent ones that are causing an issue. I think I have in the last 6 months found a couple of the Nvidia driver releases have caused a few issues with my PC and it was down to a bad driver update. Also I there is a guru3d driver cleaner tool that you could try to make sure that the drivers are fully cleaned out - http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
