Faulty laptop screen

I used my laptop this morning without any problems, put it in my bag and went for a walk.

When I tried to switch it on this afternoon I was greeted by this sight.

The laptop is less than 6 months old. The annoying thing is I bought in Thailand and the Toshiba website states that it only has a local warranty.

Any ideas on what the fault is and how I can go about repairing it?

It's a Toshiba Satellite L40-A.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Edit:

Just had another look at the screen. You can see some damage on the screen when its switched off so it's obviously been banged. Strange as I don't remember it being bumped. Just have to replace the screen when I get home :(

Have a look on the famous auction site for a replacement. The kids mangaed to trash my mrs laptop last year and I sourced a replacement screen for about £35. Fitted it myself without too much trouble.

Thanks for the advice.

I spent a large chunk of today looking for a replacement screen. The laptop works fine when I connect it to an external monitor so at least the rest of the machine is OK.

The safest option is to remove the panel and get the part number that should be printed on the back.

It'll guarantee that you get the correct part, and will probably make a replacement easier to find. The same panels are often used across many models from different manufacturers.

That looks like physical damage tbh... cracked screen. From the look of it anyway... and i fix lots of laptops :p

Is there no way it could have been stepped on by someone else while you were out?

Check your bag for any objects that may have pressed up hard against it.
